Channel 4 - Tokyo Ident

The channel 4's ident that featured Tokyo was released in 2004 it uses the theme of night life inferring that it was shown in the evening to its audience. This is an example of an ident where the design has a purpose. Channel 4 use their ident to show the channels content being diverse appealing to ordinary lifestyles withing their programming on shows such as 'Shameless', 'misfits', 'the undatebales' etc. The audience watch the ident seeing the formation of the 4 which happens at the end of the ident meaning that viewers have to wait to see what channel the ident it 4, this captures the audience attention as they wait to see what channel it is for. The use of Tokyo infers diversity. The designers of the ident create it in a way the audience can interact making members of the audience feel interested and encourage to watch the channel. In terms of information led there is a voice over during the ident informing the viewers what is coming up next. One of the main purposes for any ident is the scheduling of programmes.

 BBC

The idents for BBC all include in some way a circle for example one ident for BBC used the animation of Hippos swimming in the formation of a circle this was released in 2009. The circle symbolises the show being national as it is showed in numbers of other countries. The design of the ident being for the time and space from the designers of the broadcast were given a certain time to complete their final idea for the channels ident. The main purpose for this ident was packaging and re packaging , since the year 2006 the broadcasters decided to include the shape circles in their BBC ident. The ident of hippos infer that the audience may be watching a nature programme next on the channel.

Sky Movies

Marketing is where a company wants to sell their product to their audience, for example the idents for sky movies markets other movies to make the audience want to watch them such as the ident that featured Star Wars. In the ident clips from the movie was incorporated in the design of the ident marketing the movie. Meaning that this ident purpose was to promote the movie Star Wars to their target audience. We know the movie Star Wars was first made by Lucas films which was owned by 20th century fox, both owned by Sky therefore this is an example of synergy. The purpose of this ident is entertainment-led as it focuses on a particular audience who enjoy the star wars movies.

Sky 1

This ident is very family related as it includes the theme of Christmas which involves families as it's a time for families to come together. The typography in this ident is created to show the seasonal segmentation which is Christmas, we see the logo creating brand identity. The TV ident is made to give the channels identity from which people can then identify the channels content from the ident.  The ident is positioned in the middle of the screen, where the number 1 quickly forms into a blue tree.

BBC three

Re branding the channels is where the design or apperance of a channel changes so that it appeals to a larger audience. An example of this would be BBC three who target young people, they changed the design of their logo as wanted to make it attract their audience more. Instead of their first idea which was a simple design with white bold text on top of a blue background. They now choose to change the background colour to pink also the font which has round edges and is joint together. The use of pink makes it more colourful and vibrant for younger audiences.

  1. Maya- add heading as it makes it easier to read and highlight it in bold. Make sure you explain more on your example and the benefit and disadvantage of the design and purpose and compare them.
