In the process of my groups film production I learnt many things about the planning of a short film also what makes a good short film. As a group we faced multiple problems during the making of film and the planning, in which the people in my team solved rapidly being able to meet the deadlines made. I've realised how important pre-production is when making a short film as it gives guidance during the process also keeping everything organised ensuring deadlines are met. I discovered within a pre production as well as deadlines and schedules, the shot list, script and storyboard are equally as important this is because it helps the group be well organised when it comes to having to film being made and shoot as people such as actors and cameraman know what they must do before hand making things easier and less stressful.
We were given indivual roles to help organise the process of the making of our film, my role was cameraman. As part of this role I had to do storyboard and the shotlist based on the script made by another member in my group. I felt the storyboard I made was detailed and analysised well, as I included things such as arrows to show direction the actor had to move, also information including the shot type and the camera technique. To improve I could has written further detail on the sound in the scene to make it more interesting also what in particular was happening in the shot. For my shotlist which I made for the group I believed it was a good effort but needed more detail to improve further. I though it was made clear and easy to understand for others knowing the shot types in each shot and the camera technique.
One thing we used to help organise time was a shooting schedule. This was a schedule that included important information such as the timing of each shot also the location we was to meet at. This schedule helped organise the time in which we were shooting at, as a group we had to keep to these times to in able us that deadlines were met and things were in place. However, our schedule was not kept to at all times as people in our group would be busy during certain times making it difficult to work as a team. During the process of filming we spent a whole day shooting our film giving us a good standard of variety shot types. We discovered an issue where we was unable to film the flashback for our film this was due to our talent being unavailable on he day we set to film the flashback so this had to be un included in our film lower standard. Amongst, the schedule call sheet were completed in order to inform everyone in the production meeting arrangements and times. Everyone, in the production met on time making the process easier knowing things were kept to the schedule and nothing was falling behind.
The producer in our group was set out to search locations this was done by Maya, her first choice was the Charlton House however it was difficult to be allowed to film at because during the time we wanted to film they were really busy and we had to book s later day which we could not do as it meant deadlines would have not been met. The directors job was to go to our choose location along with the producer and complete a Reece document also a health and safety sheet. When they first visited Charlton House they were given a number to call for the film office in Greenwich but our producer was unable to get through calling multiple times.
It was my job to book out the equipment completing the booking sheet this discussed the times we were taking out equipment and the time we would be returning it. We used the following equipment cameras, tripod and an EDL lighting kit. Before we started filming we made sure we had all the equipment that was required to make a good short film knowing we had great opportunities with the equipment to create a film to high standards. One problem we faced was during film the camera would run out of battery a lot even though it was charged over night this made it very difficult to keep to timing as we stopped a lot to charge it.
