Final Pre-Production Report

Introduction

The purpose of this pre- production report is to outline and detail the requirements to produce my one minute short film. Such as funding, budget etc.

Funding and Budgeting

I will be using equipment applied by my college for free of cost such as cameras, tripod and lighting also an editing suite to edit my final short film. Although , my college will not be covering the funds for my production, meaning that myself will be providing the funding for my production. I will be using kick starter for my funding, kick starter is an easy and simple way for people to look at others projects to get inspiration and influence. If your project is successful  being able to reach its funding goal all pledges are then charged. However, is the project is unsuccessful not reaching its goal then no one is then charged. Kick starter is a reliable source for funding many people in the industry for music and film used it to help them self fund for their projects making it successful.  The funding will cover the following; catering budget, transport, equipment, clothing and props. Since the actors i will be using are not professional actors, i won't need to pay them.  Altogether, my average budget total will be around  £40 - £50

Time

Deadlines are very important, if deadlines have not been met we therefore are behind schedule also we are having to pay more money because the deadline has not been met making he film not finished and presented on time. Timing helps us as a group to be organised and prepared meeting all requirements needed to produce are short film. We are very lucky that our equipment is available to us at all times when needed making us not having to pay extra money to hire equipment for a longer period of time. The maximum time we should spend on shooting should be no more than a couple of hours as its a short film it will be very quick to film. However when editing the shots it may take up to a  day maximum to make sure it has been will edited including things such as sounds, transitions to insure that it is interesting to watch.

Copyright

Copyright is something you must be aware of before making your film without knowing the importance of it may result in serious penalties. The law of copyright is used to help protect the use of someone else work. The copyright laws are set in place to protect originality of work. you must be given permission to use others work if unable to do so then you are then therefore breaking the law committing a crime. If I am unable to receive permission I then must use copyright free material.

Crew and Personnel

The three main roles of producing a short film are the Director, Cameraman and the producer. Everyone must be well communicated with each other in order to help organised and produce a good short film. The role of the producer is very difficult and time consuming as they have multiple jobs to do before the deadline meaning they must have skills such as hard-working, organization and planning skills, they also must be creative exploring their ideas further. The two most important roles is the director and the producer as they tell you what to do for your job as well as their own, they also make sure everyone else is doing their job in the right way making sure they are not slacking as if you do they you will miss deadlines causing more money needed to be spent in order to get it done. The director must be also well hard working most importantly be able to tell people what to do having skills such leadership and communication. The cameraman must know the technical basics of photography knowing the meaning of every type of shot there is, to then use in the short film expressing meaning and purpose. They also must be able to solve problems to handle production when scenes dont work out as planned due to complications such as weather.

Certificate and Regulation

The BBFC is a non governmental organization who put classifications on all films and games in the UK. Starting at a U as the youngest audience who can watch a movie, then a 12/12A Those who are 12 and below the differences between 12 and 12A Is you have to watch the movie with an adult. The next two highest category is 15 and 18. Knowing what is suitable for a 15 year old i will be making the age certificate for my short a 15 this because it will include scenes of violence which are not suitable for younger audiences.
