Final Proposal

 Introduction
The purpose of this report is to help me prepare for my pitch and to sell my ideas to film producers encouraging them to get the film made. In my report I will be discussing the primary and secondary research which I have gathered from varies of unique short films on YouTube. For my target audience I will be making it based on the likeness of film producers who are interested in the genre of thrillers and horrors. My idea will be made simple and basic with no background story,  this is because it will interest the audience more as it means they will have to think more making up their own interpretations. My film will distributed online by exporting it and pasting on to my YouTube channel.

My idea
The idea of my short film involves two characters one male the other female. They begin talking to each other on a dating website who the girl believes she loves. He eventually talks her into meeting where he then kidnaps her and sexually assaults her. The twist is the girl fights back shooting him in the penis signifying the revenge taking the dominance away from the male.

  Target Audience
The audience which I will be building the film upon will be of 18 and above, this is because through my research I learnt the majority who enjoy watching thrillers and horrors are of this age. I feel because the main character is female the audience who watch the film are most likely to be females, this is because they may feel relatable to the main character.

  Trends

The trends I have being looking all contain a torturing aspect for example in the film Saw they are captured and then tortured in order for their survival, also in the short film captive the male is being tortured for trespassing by ghost like character. This in particular trend inspired my idea of a female being tortured by a male who is unable to escape. I have choose to have violence in my film specifically sexual violence this is because i want to show the dominance which men have on women through sexually violating the female, infers that in reality girls feel victimized to men and in serious cases are raped because they are seen as sexual objects.

Genre and Narrative

The genre i have choose for my short film is thriller, this is because my film includes violence throughout. I also will be including a twist ending my short film open. therefore leaving the audience in suspense which they will have to interpret themselves. Also making it a thriller such as the shot types i will be including such as mid shots and extreme close ups. The narrative structure for my film is non linear, this is where it will be shown in reverse order revealing the main story plot at the beginning is where the girl is getting abused. i Choose this structure because it will hook the audience straight away making it more interesting.

Costs:

Camera: FREE from college
Transport: FREE bus travel for teens
Food: £10-£15

Budget

I will have a budget of no more than £30 this is because the most expensive things are free as i will be borrowing these items from my college, equipment such as lighting source and cameras. I will be spending money on objects such as rope and makeup such as fake blood which will be no more than about £10.

             Inspiration for my short film

My idea was influence by the film 50 shades of grey this is because i felt many in particular females where interested in the plot of  the two characters, male and female interacting with each other in a sexual nature. In the film the male character called Christine grey also known as Mr grey enjoys feeling dominant with women connecting with them in a physical way, he endures torturing females as this makes him pleasured and excitable. This inspired me to come up with an  similar idea of where a male tortures a young female for his pleasure and likeness. I felt this idea would engage the audience as its a relate-able to their ordinary life as usual men feel pleasurable to women in some serious cases causing crimes such as rape and murder.

The short film captive was one of the films which influenced me for my own short film. The idea of being captured and tortured really interested me as the audience as it made me feel tensed and confused and this show i would like my target audience to feel whilst watching my short film. However in this film the man was being tortured by a ghost which i wanted to change making my film being more realistic using a real life man as i feel this is more engaging for the audience. The film is left on an open ending making the audience wonder if he is eventually killed or released. Which led me to similarly do the same for my own film making the ending open as its more interesting to watch rather revealing the ending and not feeling as suspended or engaged.

Film rating

The film rating for my short film will be of 15 age and above this is because it will contain scenes of physical violence and aggression of sexual nature. Not suitable for ages below 15.

Hook

The hook i will be including will right at the start of where we see the face of a girl covered in blood with facial expressions looking confused and scared. The actress will make the audience feel engaged as they are unaware of what is happening to her from the whereabouts she has been located tired to a chair in an abandoned car park.

Time

Timing is very important and must be stuck to there will be given deadlines to those such as camera crew the characters and so on all on the same time of the production. If it comes down to deadlines being not met them producers will be losing out on money as well as having to spend extra buying time to spend on the production to complete. I will be mostly filming on the weekends this is due to me having more time on the weekends spend for the production.

Location

The locations i have choose for my short film is an abandoned car park this is because i feel a car park gives of the sense of mystery and suspense. Which means the audience will feel get a sense of atmosphere whilst the audience watch to see what is going to happen. I will need to keep in mind that i specifically want the location of an abandoned car park therefore it will need to be film late at night or on a day its less busy during the week instead of the weekend.

Unique Selling Point(USP)

The USP for my short film is that its based on a real life story of a girl who was captured for 14 years and repeatedly sexually assaulted her whole life. I also will be including a twist in my film, leaving the audience in suspense as the end will be opened.

Final Pre-Production Report

Introduction

The purpose of this pre- production report is to outline and detail the requirements to produce my one minute short film. Such as funding, budget etc.

Funding and Budgeting

I will be using equipment applied by my college for free of cost such as cameras, tripod and lighting also an editing suite to edit my final short film. Although , my college will not be covering the funds for my production, meaning that myself will be providing the funding for my production. I will be using kick starter for my funding, kick starter is an easy and simple way for people to look at others projects to get inspiration and influence. If your project is successful  being able to reach its funding goal all pledges are then charged. However, is the project is unsuccessful not reaching its goal then no one is then charged. Kick starter is a reliable source for funding many people in the industry for music and film used it to help them self fund for their projects making it successful.  The funding will cover the following; catering budget, transport, equipment, clothing and props. Since the actors i will be using are not professional actors, i won't need to pay them.  Altogether, my average budget total will be around  £40 - £50

Time

Deadlines are very important, if deadlines have not been met we therefore are behind schedule also we are having to pay more money because the deadline has not been met making he film not finished and presented on time. Timing helps us as a group to be organised and prepared meeting all requirements needed to produce are short film. We are very lucky that our equipment is available to us at all times when needed making us not having to pay extra money to hire equipment for a longer period of time. The maximum time we should spend on shooting should be no more than a couple of hours as its a short film it will be very quick to film. However when editing the shots it may take up to a  day maximum to make sure it has been will edited including things such as sounds, transitions to insure that it is interesting to watch.

Budget Breakdown

Clothing £7-£40

Food and Transport:
Bus: Free of charge for 18 and younger for adults £1.50 per journey
Food/catering : £5-£10

Props:
Fake Blood £1-£3

Photo paper for profile pictures £5-£10

Copyright

Copyright is something you must be aware of before making your film without knowing the importance of it may result in serious penalties. The law of copyright is used to help protect the use of someone else work. The copyright laws are set in place to protect originality of work. you must be given permission to use others work if unable to do so then you are then therefore breaking the law committing a crime. If I am unable to receive permission I then must use copyright free material.

Crew and Personnel

The three main roles of producing a short film are the Director, Cameraman and the producer. Everyone must be well communicated with each other in order to help organised and produce a good short film. The role of the producer is very difficult and time consuming as they have multiple jobs to do before the deadline meaning they must have skills such as hard-working, organization and planning skills, they also must be creative exploring their ideas further. The two most important roles is the director and the producer as they tell you what to do for your job as well as their own, they also make sure everyone else is doing their job in the right way making sure they are not slacking as if you do they you will miss deadlines causing more money needed to be spent in order to get it done. The director must be also well hard working most importantly be able to tell people what to do having skills such leadership and communication. The cameraman must know the technical basics of photography knowing the meaning of every type of shot there is, to then use in the short film expressing meaning and purpose. They also must be able to solve problems to handle production when scenes dont work out as planned due to complications such as weather.

Certificate and Regulation

The BBFC is a non governmental organization who put classifications on all films and games in the UK. Starting at a U as the youngest audience who can watch a movie, then a 12/12A Those who are 12 and below the differences between 12 and 12A Is you have to watch the movie with an adult. The next two highest category is 15 and 18. Knowing what is suitable for a 15 year old i will be making the age certificate for my short a 15 this because it will include scenes of violence which are not suitable for younger audiences.
